An animal welfare group revealed that 31 dogs arrived in the US last Tuesday to begin their new lives in American homes. These were dogs rescued from China’s meat breeding farms.
It’s been over a year since the last groups of rescued dogs arrived in the US. Due to fears of a possible rabies outbreak, the government has imposed a temporary ban on the importation of canines.
Brandy Cherven, President of the China Rescue Dogs Organization, revealed that these dogs were in the process of being taken to a slaughterhouse when they came to rescue them. But the thought that these dogs now have a second chance at life made all their efforts worthwhile.
The dogs were rescued last April, just in time for the Yulin Dog Meat Festival, an annual event where more than 10,000 dogs are eaten. The rescued dogs were on their way to a slaughterhouse, where they would be sold and slaughtered in preparation for the festival.
More than ten dog rescue organizations stepped in to help bring these poor dogs to the United States. Before entering the country, they spent three weeks in Vancouver, Canada, waiting for approval to cross the border to the US.
Sixteen of these dogs are Golden Retrievers, while fifteen are Frenchies and Pugs. No one knows what the future holds for these dogs. However, the organization behind their rescue aims to provide them with loving and caring homes.
The rescue efforts were successful, thanks to the joint cooperation of different rescue teams from China, Canada, and the United States. These teams worked hard to save these dogs from being traded and slaughtered in China.
