This grizzly bear, known only as 747, who won previous years ‘Fat Bear Week’ competition has been spotted at Brooks Falls looking bigger than ever.
It is estimated he weighs an enormous 1,400 lbs and he looks like he is about to sleep through five hibernation cycles!
It comes as no surprise to know that he is the largest and most dominant bear on the river.
He has used his sheer size and influence to utilize the best of fishing spots in the Brooks Falls area.

He has been spotted by rangers eating over 15 fish over just a few hours.

Fat bears are seen as a success story for conservationists!
“This is a story about a very healthy ecosystem,” said Naomi Boak, the media ranger at Katmai National Park and Preserve. “It’s about salmon that have cool enough and fresh enough water to thrive.”
