Everyone loves pandas! They are incredibly cute big black and white fluffy bears.
Well most of the time anyways. Meet Qizai, the worlds only brown panda. Abandoned by him mom at just two months old, he faced a lifetime of bullying by other pandas.
Well it seems he has finally had a happy ending after being adopted by Pandas International, a US-based charity aiming at saving giant pandas.
He was abandoned by his mother who disappeared into the jungle and was left for dead before being found and adopted.
Researchers are struggling to get him to mate after setting him up on a date with an experienced 18 year old female panda when he was just nine.
Unfortunately the mating did not result in a pregnancy.
‘He is slower than the other pandas, but he is also cuter,’ Qizai’s keeper told MailOnline, describing the bear as a ‘gentle, funny and adorable’ animal.
Katherine Feng, American vet and photographer said: “Brown-and-white pandas have only been seen in the Qinling Mountains. The Qinling Mountain pandas are considered a different sub-species from those found in other mountain ranges.”
“It is suspected that the brown and white colouring of pandas has a genetic basis, possible a result of a double recessive gene, a combination of genes or a dilution factor gene. Qi Zai’s mother was black and white.”
There have only been five sightings of brown-and-white pandas since 1985.
Other pandas would always steal his food making his life difficult
Unlike Qizai, his mother was the usual black and white, which makes the bear’s fur color even more of a mystery
Scientists think it’s something to do with his genes
