This is the remarkable moment a tortoise named Charles Darwin officially opened a science laboratory at the University of Lincoln
Charles Darwin, who lives at the university was given a helping hand by TV and presenter and naturalist Chris Packham.
Packham who was appointed as a ‘visiting professor’, held the small tortoise up while he chomped through the rocket and dandelion ribbon.
Although the presenter of BBC Springwatch was upstaged by the little tortoise, who ignored the traditional ribbon-cutting methods and opted for his own way.
This presents the opening of the new Joseph Banks laboratories where Mr. Packham also gave his first lecture to around 300 students from the University.
Although the presenter, photographer, environmental campaigner, and award-winning conservationist will deliver more lectures and workshops to the students.
Talking in the lecture, he said: “I never expected to do an on-stage performance with Charles Darwin.”
“It symbolizes the ambition of the university – no simple ribbon-cutting – anyone can do that,” he said.

The new laboratories are named Joseph Banks to honor the man who accompanied Capt James Cook on his first voyage to discover Australia and its surrounding land.
