I think we can all agree that there are some pretty beautiful birds out there.
Introducing the spectacular black and yellow broadbill, which looks like its straight out of a cartoon!
This tiny bird has a pink body, black and yellow wings, bright yellow eyes, and an aqua colored beak.
Native to South-Eastern Asia, its natural habitats are subtropical and tropical moist lowland or montane forests.
Often found in countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, and more.
Unfortunately, they are listed as ‘near threatened’ on the IUCN Red List. They are threatened by habitat loss to the local logging industry.
They are known to make large pear-shaped and purse-like nests that hang from trees.
The nests can be constructed from moss and leaf skeletons and be lined with roots and leaves.
The black-and-yellow broadbill’s diet consists mainly of insects such as mantises and beetles.
Their call consists of high-pitched coos that increase in pitch and speed, turning into a maddened series of loud whistles.
Often, their song is described as “disproportionately loud,” hear it for yourself below:
What an unforgettable and unique bird.
