Who doesn’t love a good massage? Well, we know that cows especially do!
You can often see cows rubbing their bodies against hard surfaces like trees and fences to give themselves a good old body massage.
The massage serves two purposes; the first is simply because it feels so good to scratch an itch and remove dirt stuck on their bodies.
Despite not being ideal for cows, they will often destroy the trees and fences they use to give themselves a much-needed scratch.
This has led to some farms around the world installing an automatic brush system to help pamper the itchy animals.
These mechanical brushes allow cows access to an automatic massage system that they can access whenever they feel the need.
Resulting in cleaner skin, improved blood circulation, and most important of all, some stress relief for the cows in need of a scratch.
The growing awareness around the world for animal welfare has led to more farms installing these automatic brush systems.
In fact, Denmark has taken it one step further and made it a requirement by law to own one of these systems on a cow farm.
Marina Von Keyserlingk, a researcher at the University of British Colombia said, “We have no idea how these cows think, but what we do know is that she’s (the cows) highly motivated to brush.”
