A Yorkie pup named Macy is being hailed a hero after protecting her 10-year-old human from a coyote
The incident was captured on video and it shows 10-year-old Lily Kwan walking around with Macy in their Toronto neighborhood when a coyote begins to chase them.
Lily starts to scream out for help before dropping Macy’s leash to try and get help from a neighbor.
It was at this point Macy began to fight with the coyote to protect her young human. Lily was speaking to reporters for News 6 and said:
“I ran to the sidewalk and started screaming for help. No one heard me. I just saw this coyote trying to attack my dog and I tried to ring on people’s doorbells and knock on people’s doors but this one neighbor actually let me in.”
“She’s a super brave dog, I love her so much and I just thought this tiny dog could protect this huge human being, trying to fight off this huge coyote.”
Macy successfully protected Lily from the coyote, but not without sacrifice. She was injured on her leg and torso and ended up needing surgery.
Lily’s mom, Dorothy Kwan set up a GoFundMe page with the original goal of $10,000 to pay for the surgery. They easily surpassed this and are now on $38k, $2k short of the new target.
Speaking to News 6, Dorothy said: “My dog would do anything for our family, so I’m actually not surprised that she did that… She’s our little hero”
“I would never guess that a coyote, you know, would come out during the day and especially with someone screaming and yelling it still was not fazed, it just kept coming after her and our dog, you know, despite all the yelling, it was quite aggressive.”

Dogs are fiercely loyal, we always knew this, but this is a great reminder to never take them for granted! Well done Macy!
