Meet Jack and Diane, a pair of senior dogs who have been through it all, together
They were found abandoned at a cemetery in Maine and were sent to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society.
The senior dogs were living at the shelter for six months with no prospects of finding a new home.
10-year-old Jack and 7-year-old Diane were a loving couple and wanted nothing more than to find a forever family.
The rescue came up with an idea to make sure they stayed together, they hosted a wedding to officially marry them.
“The staff joked about them being our old married couple,” Stevanie Roy, the shelter director, told The Dodo. “When we thought of ways to promote them, we chose to marry the two bonded mates.”
So one day, staff spent the morning decorating the shelter with wedding decor, white flowers, and of course, made sure Diane had a vale.
They even went as far as to roll out the long carpet and, soon enough, the guests started rolling in.
“Diane had her own dressing room where she was dressed in a veil with a flowered collar,” Roy said.
“Jack, wearing a bow tie, patiently awaited her arrival at the altar — although when she started walking down the aisle, he quickly met her halfway with excitement.”
Roy was waiting at the altar for the pups and said a few words about the happy couple.
“Instead of saying ‘I do,’ the dogs each showered me with wet, slobbery kisses,” Roy said.
“Their reception was held right after the wedding, where we had a pizza party, and both Jack and Diane snuck pepperoni slices from the hands of the staff.”
All Jack and Diane needed now was the perfect family to call and adopt them.
“When she is separated from Jack, you can find her impatiently waiting for his return,” Roy said.
“When she sees him coming towards her, she does a little dance in excitement. Both Jack and Diane enjoy car rides, and both have attended multiple nursing homes to provide therapy to patients in need. They enjoy soaking up the attention!”
After a few fateful months, Jack and Diane finally found the forever home they were always looking for.
“They were adopted earlier this week; their new dad loves them and reports to us that they are doing fantastic!” reported the shelter on Facebook.
