One day, Massachusetts State Police Trooper Carlo Mastromattei responded to a call to aid an injured dog found on the side of the road.
When he arrived at the scene, he realized it wasn’t the kind of dog he was expecting, it was instead a baby coyote.
Found on the side of the road near the Suffolk downs, all alone and afraid of everything happening around it.
After an unsuccessful search for its mother, Mastromattei realized the danger of leaving the pup alone on the highway, and so contacted the animal control officials.
Unfortunately, nobody was around to help, so he called the Ocean View Kennels, and managed to secure a crate for the pup from owner Lisa Cutting.
But this was not the end of the adventure for the pup. As it turns out, Mastromattei and his girlfriend AnnBeth are both devoted animal lovers and took the pup in for the night.
After a night of being taken care of, the baby coyote moved to Tufts Wildlife where he was examined and found to be healthy.
After the check-up, he was sent to the Berkshires to be taken care of by wildlife specialists who will attempt to rehabilitate him and eventually release him back into the wild.
The Massachusetts State Police released a post praising the pair for the pups rescue:
