Monica Canova has been living with an uninvited yet adorable tiny housemate who now resides in her kitchen.
He’s a little mouse, and quite fittingly, she gave him the name Mousey.
Despite knowing the little rodent by name now, things didn’t exactly get off to a good start.
Canova’s response was significantly icier when she first saw him. Yet, that feeling quickly faded.
“The first time I saw him, I thought, ‘Well, that’s sorta gross,’” Canova told The Dodo.
“But when I got closer to him, he had the cutest, most perfect little ears. [He] looked up at me as if to say, ‘Hi!’ And I just couldn’t not let him be.”
Since then, Mousey has mostly remained to himself, although Canova still continues to find it pleasantly surprising when he appears.
Sure, it could be simple to imagine some potential drawbacks to residing with a mouse, but Canova has been accepting Mousey’s existence and has chosen to make peace with him rather than try to expel him.
“As much as it’s not so great having a mouse as a roommate, I feel too bad to displace him,” Canova said, adding that Mousey really seems to have warmed to the hospitality. “I think he thinks he owns the place.”
