Meet The Large Niltava – The Gorgeous Purply-Blue Songbird (10 Pics)

This gorgeous bird is covered in an electric bluey-purple-colored plumage.

Only the males are this outstanding bluey-purple all over, with a slightly darker face, neck patch, and rump.

The females on the other hand are a slightly duller brown color with some blue patches under her cheeks.

The bird is native to Southeast Asia and can be found in many countries from India to Bangladesh and Nepal, and many more.

The unique bird species prefer to live in dense and moist tropical forests.

They can be difficult to spot in the wild, especially due to dense foliage, it is much more likely you will catch a glimpse of them when they come down from their perch.

Their diet consists mainly of insects and other invertebrates as well as berries every now and then.

They build their nest out of moss and plant fibers and place it usually in tree hollows, among boulders or holes made in rotting tree stumps.

The females lay between 2 and 5 eggs which are incubated for 15 days with the help of the male.

The large niltava’s population is stable and they are not threatened. This may be due to their large breeding range.
