Cheech was found as a stray on the streets of Texas when he was only 2 years old and was taken to a local shelter
This is when the City of Waller Animal Shelter and Rescue took him in, in the hope of finding him a forever home.
As he was so tiny, staff at the shelter thought he would be scared of new environments, but Cheech was quick to prove them wrong.
While he was in his kennel, Cheech began making the cutest face which led staff to think he might actually be upset.
But Cheech then showed the most adorable, cheeky smile, and everyone fell in love with him from that moment.
“I went into the kennel to check him out and yelled for the other volunteers to come look,” Leah Sipe, director of the Shelter and Rescue, told The Dodo.
“They thought I was insane and that he was snarling, when I stuck my hand in the cage I thought they were going to pass out. He’s as friendly as can be!”
Sipe shared photos of Cheech’s beautiful smile on the Shelters Facebook page, and netizens soon fell in love with him.
Before long, Cheech AKA The Smiling Dog received over 50 applications from people interested in adopting him.
Both Cheech and the shelter were over the moon at the number of applications submitted for Cheech.
Eventually, staff found the perfect one, a lady whose recent pup passed away due to cancer, and her current dog was beside himself with grief.
Soon after the pair met, it was clear that they were made for each other. All Cheech was interested in was cuddling his new sibling Dusty and his new mom.
