Meet the Ili Pika, the cutest animal you’ve probably never heard of.
This adorable creature is one of the rarest and most endangered animals on earth, this is the first time it has been spotted in 20 years.
It is estimated their population is now less than 1,000, all of which live in their native China.
First discovered in the Tianshan mountains, China in 1983, their population has dropped over 70% since then.
Most famously characterized by their similarities to a teddy bear and also their relation to a family favorite, the rabbit.
These creatures are so rare, scientists know very little about them, the conservationist who discovered them, Li Weidong told CNN:
“I discovered the species, and I watched as it became endangered. If it becomes extinct in front of me, I’ll feel so guilty.”
He and staff with him dubbed it the ‘magic rabbit.’
