Incredible Footage Captures a Sleeping Octopus Changing Color While Dreaming

An octopus has been filmed changing colour when sleeping, scientists think that it could be due to it dreaming.

So it appears that our eight-legged friends can dream, who knew?

The incredible footage, captured by PBS for an upcoming documentary Octopus: Making Contact, shows the mysterious creature asleep and changing color.

This ranges from grey, to yellow, then almost invisible as it camouflages itself against the ocean.

Narrating calmly, Scientist Dr David Scheel speculates what the octopus might be dreaming about:

“She sees a crab and her colour starts to change a little bit. Then she turns all dark. Octopuses will do that when they leave the bottom.

This is a camouflage, like she’s just subdued a crab and now she’s going to sit there and eat it and she doesn’t want anyone to notice her. …

This really is fascinating. But yeah, if she’s dreaming that’s the dream.”

You really do learn something new everyday.
