Family Wakes Up To Find A Wild Black Bear Snoozing In The Closet

A family from Missoula, Montana woke up one morning to find an unexpected visitor napping in their closer – a black bear!

They immediately called in some help from the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office explained in a Facebook post that the black bear had “opened the door to the mudroom of this residence and somehow managed to deadbolt the door from inside. After being unable to leave, the bear began ripping the room apart but then decided he was tired and climbed up into the closet for a nap.”

And that’s how the deputies from the sheriff’s office found him, sleeping while perched on a shelf.

They continued: “When deputies knocked on the window, the bear was not the least bit impressed. He slowly stretched, yawned and, unamused, looked toward the door.”

Apparently, the deputies attempted to get the bear to leave on his own:

“Eventually, deputies were able to unlock the door in hopes he would hop down and leave. However, their attempts were only met with more big bear yawns.”

Here’s a video showing the bear perched up in the closet:

Despite their attempts, it looked like the bear was in no mood to leave, so the deputies were forced to take the next step; tranquillizing the bear so he could be relocated.

The Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks came to help with this. Turns out he got a much longer nap than was originally planned.

“The homeowners were glad he was removed in good health, but won’t soon forget when this intruder came looking for the bear necessities!” said the sheriff’s office.

“This is another good reason to lock up, as we also have unconfirmed reports that he tried two other closets before he decided this one was juuuuuust right (kidding)! But seriously, lock up!”
