Waddles the duck was born with a deformed leg, and instead of putting it down as most would, Ben Weinman wanted to help him live a better life.
We’ve heard of other animals using prosthetic limbs, cats, dogs, and elephants, but never a duck!
Adoptive owner ben contacted a ‘Certified Pet Prostheticist’ named Derrick Campana who made a 3D-printed prosthetic leg and foot for Waddles.
A clip showing the moment Waddles was first fitted with his new leg from the NatGeo Wild series, The Wizard of Paws, was shared online, and it’s adorable.
You can see the initial confusion in Waddles before happily waddling (pun intended) along with his two feet after some encouragement from his humans.
“I didn’t think I would be emotional about this,” says Weinman. “But when you take these animals, all you want to do is give them a good life and do right by them.” He continues, “You see them struggling, and you think there’s nothing you can do. It’s really heartbreaking. So yeah, Derrick knocked it out of the park.”
